Introduction to Chinese Art and Architecture
Prof. Eugene Wang | Fall, 2018
Tuesday/Thursday 12- 1:15 pm
Chinese art is brought closer to us through ten accessible portals. Ten 20th-century figures--real or fictional--serve as our “tour” guides. The cast includes the high-flying Swordswoman, the gender-bending Actor, and the undaunted Moonwalker. They recall historical precedents and anchor a variety of domains. Together they weave larger historical patterns, build a cultural “brain,” and sets up a conceptual and historical apparatus. Students navigate their ways in this universe by adding their own cells to this cultural-historical “neural system.”
